Bashers Dominate, Sweep Upper Deckers 25-4, 17-5

The Bashers lived up to their name on Wednesday night as they decimated the Upper Deckers, sweeping both games of the doubleheader.

The Bashers used two big innings to dominate the Upper Deckers in game 1 by a final of 25-4. After only sending 3 men to the plate in the first, the team responded by putting up 16 in the second inning. They brought home 11 runs in the inning to gain an 11-0 lead after an inning and a half. While the home team countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the second, the Bashers would outdo their second inning offensive display in the top of the third. The team sent an incredible 19 to the plate in the frame, and scored another 14 runs. Each team member scored at least one run in the frame. The Upper Deckers could only manage a run in the bottom of the third, and the game was ended after three innings due to the mercy rule.

In the nightcap the Bashers spotted the Upper Deckers a 3-0 lead after half an inning. The Bashers would tie it in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Dean and Glen would each get singles, sandwiched around a walk to Pat. Matt would hit a sacrifice fly, and Tommy and Marty would follow with back-to-back, 2 out, RBI singles. After holding the line on defense, the Bashers gained their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second. Kevin and Mark would record back-to-back singles. Dave hit into a double-play, but Kevin scored from second to make it 4-3.

After the Upper Deckers tied it in the top of the third, the Bashers had another big inning. They sent 11 batters to the plate and scored 7 times to put the game out of reach. All the runs scored with 2 outs in the inning. After giving up a run to make it 11-5 after three and a half, the Bashers would score twice more in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI double by Tommy to score Glen, and then an RBI ground-out by Marty to bring home Tommy.

With a shut-out inning in the top of the fifth, the Bashers closed out the game at bat. Pat would drive home Dave with a one-out single, and then Tommy, with the bases loaded, hit a triple to plate Dean, Pat and Glen. At that point, the mercy rule was enforced for the second time on the night.
