Bashers Rock Bad News Beers, Sweep Doubleheader
The Bashers and the Bad News Beers have played some epic games in their short, but intense, rivalry. Wednesday night was no exception, as the Bashers bats continued their renaissance to lead the team to a doubleheader sweep, 13-9 and 16-9.
In game one, there was no score through an inning and a half. The Bashers came up in the home half of the second, and promptly sent 11 to the plate. 8 straight reached base with one out, including 7 singles and a walk. Tommy and Mark each had one-run singles, and Kevin and Tab had two-run singles. The Bashers, however, gave back all those runs in the top of the third, and it was 6-6 going into the bottom of the 3rd. The Bashers, though, would put up another half-dozen runs in that inning, capped off with a 3 run home run by Tommy, his fourth of the regular season and the sixth overall in the spring. After giving back three in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 12-9, the Beers could not rally. The Bashers added a final run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Tab to account for the final scoreline.
In game 2, the Bashers again jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Bashers scored four in the first, but allowed on in the bottom of the first. However, the Bashers put the game out of reach in the visiting second. They sent 11 to the plate, scoring 7 times. The crushing blow was a three-run home run by Glen. The Bashers blanked the Beers in the second, and then added 4 more in the third inning, speaked by a two-run triple by Chris J. With it 15-1, the Bashers let off the gas. They allowed 6 in the home half of the fourth, which made it a 15-9 scoreline. However, the Bashers would get a final run in the visiting fifth on a solo home run by Glen, his 2nd of the night, 6th of the regular season and 11th of the spring.
The win moved the Bashers to 9-4-1, and the two losses dropped the Beers to an even 7-7.
The Bashers are now unbeaten in their last nine, and have won eight in a row. The offense has been the difference, as the Bashers continue their run of double-digit scorelines. Next up for the Bashers is Hot Action, which has not been very hot this season and stood going into last night at 0-12-0. The games will start at 8:30pm at Barcroft.

The 6th was capped by Glen's second home run of the game (4th of the regular season), this one a three-run shot. Meanwhile, Chris was masterful on the mound, shutting out Jay's Saloon in the final four frames to gain his 7th victory of the season.
The bats were led by Tommy, who was 6 for 7 over the 2 games with 4 extra-base hits and a game-high 6 runs scored. Dean went 5 for 7 with 5 runs scored and 3 doubles, while Tab was 4 for 6 with 7 runs batted in and Glen drove home 6.

Bashers Sweep That's What She Said, Extend Unbeaten Streak to 5
The Bashers used some late-inning heroics again on Wednesday night to twice rally for victories against That's What She Said (formerly Consolidated Construction) by scores of 13-5 and 16-15.
In the opener, the Bashers used the long ball to good effect, with Chris E, Tommy and Glen all finding the other side of the fence. The Bashers blew open a 5-5 game in the bottom of the fourth. All 11 batters came to the plate, sparked by Tommy and Glen's home runs. Chris E pitched tremendously, allowing only 3 earned runs over 5.
In the nightcap, the Bashers scored 7 in the top of the first, only to see their opponents put up 11 in their frame. However, the Bashers continued to battle. They tied it at 11 in the top of the second, but fell behind 15-11 after 3. A 5-run fourth inning gave the Bashers a 16-15 going into the bottom of the 4th, the last frame. With the tying run on third and the winning run on second and a 3-2 count, Chris delivered a nearly unhittable pitch that tied the batter in knots as he swung and missed.
The Bashers have now won four in a row, and are unbeaten in 5. They are next in action on May 30th at 8pm against Jay's Saloon. The game will be at Virginia Highlands.
