Bashers Sweep Doubleheader, Extend Streak to 6

As the summer heat has begun to infiltrate the northern Virginia landscape, the Basher bats are starting to finally come out of their own winter hibernation. They swept Jay's Saloon on Wednesday night by scores of 11-6 and 18-6 to extend their winning streak to 6 and remain unbeaten in their last 7, a streak that has seen them score double-digits in each game.

In the opener, the Bashers gave up 3 quick runs in the top of the first. In their own half, however, the Basehrs scored 3 times as well thanks to 5 singles in the inning. The teams would each score twice in the third to make it 5-5. With it 6-5 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Bashers put their mark on the game, scoring 6 times. They were sparked by a 3-run home run by Tommy, his third of the regular season. That would conclude the scoring, as the Bashers went to 6-4-1 with the victory.

Game two was over as a contest before it started. The Bashers sent all 12 to the plate in the top of the first, scoring 8. The first 10 men to the plate reached base, topped by Tab's three-run home run (2nd of regular season) and a 2-run triple by Dave. The Bashers would put up 3 in the top of the second, including the first of Glen's home runs, a two run shot. With 4 in the bottom of the second by Jay's Saloon it was 11-6 Bashers. The Bashers tacked on another run in the 4th, and five more in the top of the 6th, all with 2 outs. The 6th was capped by Glen's second home run of the game (4th of the regular season), this one a three-run shot. Meanwhile, Chris was masterful on the mound, shutting out Jay's Saloon in the final four frames to gain his 7th victory of the season.

The bats were led by Tommy, who was 6 for 7 over the 2 games with 4 extra-base hits and a game-high 6 runs scored. Dean went 5 for 7 with 5 runs scored and 3 doubles, while Tab was 4 for 6 with 7 runs batted in and Glen drove home 6.

Bashers Sweep That's What She Said, Extend Unbeaten Streak to 5

The Bashers used some late-inning heroics again on Wednesday night to twice rally for victories against That's What She Said (formerly Consolidated Construction) by scores of 13-5 and 16-15.

In the opener, the Bashers used the long ball to good effect, with Chris E, Tommy and Glen all finding the other side of the fence. The Bashers blew open a 5-5 game in the bottom of the fourth. All 11 batters came to the plate, sparked by Tommy and Glen's home runs. Chris E pitched tremendously, allowing only 3 earned runs over 5.

In the nightcap, the Bashers scored 7 in the top of the first, only to see their opponents put up 11 in their frame. However, the Bashers continued to battle. They tied it at 11 in the top of the second, but fell behind 15-11 after 3. A 5-run fourth inning gave the Bashers a 16-15 going into the bottom of the 4th, the last frame. With the tying run on third and the winning run on second and a 3-2 count, Chris delivered a nearly unhittable pitch that tied the batter in knots as he swung and missed.

The Bashers have now won four in a row, and are unbeaten in 5. They are next in action on May 30th at 8pm against Jay's Saloon. The game will be at Virginia Highlands.
