The Bashers finally climbed into the win column on Wednesday night as they split the doubleheader with the Lollygaggers. They rallied to win 12-11 in the first game, but fell 12-9 in the second in the first regular-season games that the Bashers have played at newly renovated Barcroft.
Billy Ocean once sung "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." The Bashers proved that again Wednesday night, displaying a never-say-die attitude that brought them the title a year ago. The Bashers trailed for most of the night, pulling even at 6-6 in the bottom of the third before falling behind 11-6 going into the bottom of the seventh. It was then that the Basher bats, which have taken an early season sabbatical, came to life. Tommy, pinch-hitting for Mark, ripped a single, followed by one from Dean. Chris then came up with an RBI single. With two on and no-one out, Tab crushed a home run to left-center, the first Basher home run of the regular season. After a pair of outs, Marty, Tim and Dave all hit consecutive singles to tie the game at 11. Kevin, mired in an early-season slump, was able to drive a ball into right-center to score Tim from second and give the Bashers their inaugural victory of the season.
Unfortunately, the momentum did not carry over to the nightcap of the twin bill. The Bashers trailed throughout the early stages of the game and were down 5-1 after three. The Bashers grabbed the lead twice, once with a 6-run fourth inning sparked by a string of 4 consecutive singles by Marty, Tim, Matt and Dave. After allowing 2 in the bottom of the frame to tie it, the Bashers again took a lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth. However, a 5-run bottom of the fifth left the Bashers staring defeat in the face, and they were unable to mount another late-inning rally and fell 12-9. In the second game, it was defense that hurt the Bashers allowed only two earned runs in the game.
The Basher bats were led by Chris (5-8), Tim (4-6), Dave (4-6) and Tab (3-6, with a double and a home run).

Bashers Bats Remain in Hibernation
The weather for the opening night of the 2007 spring season was more suited for penguins than it was softball. It seems only fitting, then, that the Bashers dropped the opening doubleheader of the season to the Fighting Penguins on a chilly night at Jennie Dean Park by scores of 13-6 and 11-9.
The Bashers' struggles at the plate continued throughout the night as they could not figure out the crafty left-hander on the mound for the Penguins. As a team, the Bashers were only 10-for-25 in the opener. While every man had at least one hit, only new lead-off man Dean managed to get multiple hits in the game. In the second game, the Bashers were stronger at the plate, hitting 15-of-31. However, the Bashers failed to score in three of their six at-bats, which hurt their chances of a second-game rally.
Chris continued to pitch well, allowing 23 total earned runs during the doubleheader. At the plate, Dean led the way with a spectacular 5-of-6 performance, while newcomer Tim was 4-of-5 on the night with a team-high 3 RBIs (tied with Chris). Tab also had a strong game at the plate, going 3-of-4 with a team-high 2 walks. He also scored three times, as did Glen. Matt was brilliant in the field, coming up with several outstanding snags and throws from the hot corner. In addition, the Bashers welcomed back Old Danny, who sat out the Fall 2006 season. While the Bashers were without their normal power numbers and finished the games without a home run, they did manage 5 sacrifice flies.
The Bashers will look to get going in the right direction, in what team meteorologists promise will be warmer conditions, in week two against the Lollygaggers. The game will be played on Wednesday April 25th at 6:30pm at Barcroft Field. For directions, click here.

Bashers Fall in Final of Early Bird Tournament
In their second tournament of the spring, the Bashers rallied from early disappointment to the "B" division final before falling in heartbreaking fashion to rival Bad News Beers. After going 1-2 in the opening round, the Bashers finished third in their group, which put them in the "B" bracket on Saturday.
Saturday started off well for the Bashers, as they won their first two games, despite still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes with the 9am start time. In the winner's bracket final, the Bashers found themselves down to 9 men. However, the heart of the team would not be overcome as they defeated the Bad News Beers with a late-inning rally for a birth in the final.
The two teams would meet again in the championship game. As the skies grayed, so did the Bashers' hopes. They were unable to post a come-from-behind victory and fell, 14-11. In the second championship game the Bashers were unable to compensate for being shorthanded again, and fell 14-2.
The Bashers were led at the plate by Tommy, who made his inaugural 2007 appearance for the club and responded by going 19-for-22, a cool .864 average and a team-high 3 triples while also topping the team with 13 runs scored. Glen was in mid-season form by knocking 4 home runs and driving in a team-high 16. In Saturday's action, Dave pitched for the Bashers and went 3-2 with a 7.60 ERA.
